Autumn time is pumpkin time
Pumpkins are an essential part of autumn; they come in so many different varieties. They look great as decorations and bring color into your home. Just like with food, there are countless possibilities.
Pumpkin and dried flowers: A timeless gift
The combination of pumpkins and dried flowers is a real eye-catcher. It also makes for a wonderful gift idea, as dried flowers provide joy for a long time and last forever.
Sculpting pumpkins with kids
This DIY is also a lot of fun for kids. Sculpting helps strengthen their fine motor skills, and their imagination allows them to create beautiful works of art they can be proud of.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1
Form a ball with the modeling clay. To minimize cracks and unevenness, smooth it out a little with water.
Step 2
Wrap the ball in cling film and press the grooves into the ball using a piece of string.
Step 3
To make the grooves more visible, press them in from all sides using a round brush until everything is nice and even. Tip: Smooth out the grooves evenly with water and a brush.
Step 4
For the pumpkin with dried flowers or a tealight, shape a hole in the middle. I made the grooves exactly the same way as with the round pumpkins. The complete drying time took about 5–7 days, depending on the size of the pumpkin.
Step 5
After drying, paint the pumpkins with acrylic paint. For better coverage, prime them with white first. Then, paint over them with your desired color as many times as needed until the paint covers sufficiently.
Step 6
For the stem of the round pumpkins, cut two pieces of string of the same length, fray the ends a little with your fingers, and attach them to the pumpkin with hot glue.
Step 7
For the pumpkin with dried flowers, cut a piece of floral foam to the appropriate size for the opening.
Step 8
Now you can cut the dried flowers to your desired length and decorate the pumpkin with dried flowers as you like.
