Mobile Advent Calendar
For many, it's the most wonderful time of the year, and for the little ones, it's surely the very best: Advent season. Together, we look forward to Christmas Eve finally arriving – and the most beautiful way to shorten the waiting time is with a homemade advent calendar.
Age: From 9 years
Duration: 1 - 2 hours
Difficulty: Easy
For this project you will need:
Unconventional and Special
Our advent calendar stands out for several reasons. Firstly, because of its unusual, not-so-typical Christmas colors. Secondly, because the gift bags are not simply hung up, but creatively attached to a decorative mobile. For the mobile, we use a sturdy bamboo ring, which gives the whole thing a natural and modern look.
Elaborate, but worthwhile
We have to admit, creating an advent calendar can be very time-consuming. But don't worry, our idea can also be implemented in a simpler way. How about, for example, simply painting dots instead of elaborate stripes? Or a charming alternative: it doesn't have to be a gift hidden in the bag every day. Perhaps a small surprise only awaits every other day, while on the other days a loving message hangs on a star.
The possibilities to make this project smaller according to your own ideas and time resources are diverse – there are no limits to creativity.
The most important thing:
The content is the heart of every advent calendar! Make it varied: sometimes something to snack on, a personal letter, a fine tea or a loving gesture. For children, it could be a bedtime story with a theater performance or small gifts like pens, notepads, toys, stickers or a homemade bracelet. Adults appreciate candles, fragrance sticks, bath salts or hand cream.
With a mix of thoughtful gestures, messages and small surprises, your advent calendar will be something very special.
Step-by-step guide
Step 1
Glue the washi tape in strips onto the bags.
Step 2
Apply the paint to the bags with a sponge dabber. Be careful not to use too much paint, so it doesn't run under the Washi tape. Repeat this for all 24 bags, using orange, violet, salmon, and brown. (Alternatively, dots can also be stamped onto the bags.) Then carefully peel off the Washi tape – the paint doesn't have to be completely dry yet.
Step 3
Once the bags are dry, stamp the numbers onto them using a stencil. Be careful not to use too much paint. Place the numbers towards the bottom of the bags.
Step 4
After all the bags are completely dry, you can fill them with gifts. Attach colorful silk ribbons.
Step 5
Cut two pieces of Scrubbi yarn, each about 1 meter long, and attach all four ends to the wooden ring. Tie the finished bags to the wooden ring with the glittery Scrubbi yarn. Afterwards, you can decorate the Advent calendar mobile with our Foamy moss rubber stars.
Step 6
Glue the finished, cooled flowers to a branch using hot glue.
