Step-by-step instructions
Step 1
Take 8 sheets of A4 paper and fold them once in the middle to get 16 A5 inside pages. Smooth the fold with a bone folder so that everything lies nice and neat.
Step 2
Choose an A4 sheet of cardstock or watercolor paper for the cover. Design it to your heart's content: soft color gradients, wintery patterns, or small illustrations—perfect for a homemade gift! Let everything dry well. Then, cut the sheet in half and carefully glue it onto the prepared pages.
Step 3
Place the cover and pages flush against each other. Divide the fold on the inside into four even sections (approx. 2 cm each) and mark the points where the holes for the binding should be made. Carefully use the needle to pierce through all layers.
Step 4
Cut off about 60-80cm of embroidery thread, thread a needle, and start from the outside bottom. Sew using a 4-hole pattern (classic Japanese binding)—this creates a beautiful, stable binding with a decorative thread spine. Finally, tie everything off securely, and your personalized Christmas gift is ready!
