To the product

This ready-to-use black scratch tempera paint is perfect for painting over backgrounds drawn with wax crayons using a brush or paint roller to create impressive scratch art pictures. The pasty tempera paint has high coverage, dries to a silk-matt finish, and is lightfast. It is easy to clean with soap and water and is ideal for various smooth surfaces such as paper, cardboard, and wood.

The magic of scratch art

Combine different colors and shapes for special effects. Use green beads for stems and leaves, and yellow accents for glowing flower centers. Neon beads also create exciting highlights. Several flowers together make a beautiful picture or a colorful bouquet.

A finished scratch art piece with delicate, colorful flower patterns shows the impressive contrast between the black scratch layer and the vibrant colors.

Good to know

The scratch paint must be completely dry before you can start scratching. You can speed up the drying process with a hair dryer. For effective, vibrant motifs, it is best to color the paper as brightly as possible and avoid large, solid-colored areas. If you want to sketch the motif first before you start scratching, it is best to use a soft pencil so that the scratch paint does not dissolve and you do not have to erase lines of the preliminary drawing.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1

Color the paper with wax crayons.

The paper is completely filled with bright colors using colored wax crayons – the foundation for a vibrant scratch art picture.

Step 2

Paint over with scratch paint and allow to dry.

The colorfully painted paper is evenly painted over with black scratch tempera paint, forming the foundation for the final scratch art picture.

Step 3

Select a motif or stencil and, if necessary, sketch it out with a colored pencil.

After drying, the motif is lightly sketched onto the black scratch layer using a soft pencil – in preparation for the scratch art picture.

Step 4

Etch the motif using a pointed tool, such as a toothpick.

Using a wooden stick, the black scratch layer is carefully removed, so that the colorful floral motif becomes visible step by step.
