Hello, I'm Isabelle and I love being creative with different materials. Today I’m showing you a cozy autumn DIY project. Don’t be afraid of crochet; with just a few stitch types, you can reach your goal of crocheting your own bag simply and in a relaxed way. The Vivace yarn from Lalana feels pleasant in the hand and has a wonderfully autumnal color gradient.

For this project you need:

Self-crocheted shopping bag in natural tones lies on a wooden table, decorated with pine cones, dried flowers, and wooden beads for a natural handmade look.
Self-crocheted bag with a color gradient from beige to brown hangs decoratively on a wooden wall and is adorned with a “Handmade” label and a personalized keychain.

Crocheting for relaxation

For me, immersing myself in a crochet project has a very decelerating effect. As preparation, I recommend getting familiar with the basic stitches (chain stitches, single crochets, half double crochets). After that, you are ready for your project.

Sustainable and versatile: The yarn from Lalana

The Vivace yarn from Lalana is made from recycled materials and is therefore an environmentally friendly choice for your projects. It impresses not only with its sustainability but also with its unusual variety of colors. The color gradient of the Vivace yarn is a particular highlight, as it consists of several shades that blend harmoniously into one another and give every crochet piece a special depth. Whether you want to crochet bags, scarves, or hats – Lalana offers you a wide selection of yarns that are suitable for every endeavor.

Perfect gift for your loved ones

This self-crocheted bag is not only a great project for you, but also the ideal gift! With its individual design and beautiful color gradient, it is a real eye-catcher. Whether as a birthday present, a small token of appreciation, or simply to make someone happy – this bag is practical, stylish, and handmade with a lot of love. Who wouldn’t be happy about such a personal gift?

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1

Start with a chain stitch foundation in the desired width of your bag. I am using 30 stitches + 1 turning chain here.

The first chain stitches are cast on with a crochet hook and yarn – the beginning of crocheting a homemade bag.

Step 2

After that, crochet 4-5 rows of single crochet stitches until you have reached the desired width for the base of the bag. At the end of each row, take a turning chain stitch; this is not crocheted into after turning.

The first crochet rows for a homemade bag are created with single crochet stitches and form the stable foundation of the DIY project.

Step 3

As soon as you have the desired width, crochet around the base. Crochet 2-3 stitches into each corner. At the end, join to the first stitch with a slip stitch.

The stitches are carefully continued with the crochet hook – step by step, the structure of a crocheted bag is formed.

Step 4

It is best to mark the first stitch with a stitch marker now. Start with a complete round of single crochet stitches, working only into the back loop of each stitch. This will create a nice curve for the base of the bag's edge.

The crochet pattern of the bag grows row by row and shows the progress of the handmade DIY project.

Step 5

Now we begin to crochet upwards. Start with a chain stitch. Then work exclusively in half double crochet stitches: yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop. With 3 loops on the hook, pull the yarn through all loops.

Additional stitches are worked with the crochet hook – step by step, the even pattern of a crocheted bag is created.
